Hi, I’m Martina and with this article I take you with me into a home that it was a pleasure to help make so beautiful.

When the clients crossed the threshold of our showroom to entrust us with the renovation of their home, a first meeting was enough to outline the direction of the project. I found myself in front of a clear aesthetic sensibility: they were looking for an elegant and refined atmosphere, capable of welcoming without ever being ostentatious.

Designing for those who have such a defined taste is always a stimulating challenge, but what made this journey truly special was the total harmony that was created. They trusted my advice, giving me the freedom to dare with material combinations and in the definition of the furnishings.

OAK WOOD FLOORING FOR THE INTERIORS OF THE HOME

Morciato Oak: a carpet of history underfoot

To give continuity and warmth to a home developed on two levels, the choice of flooring could only fall on a single, great protagonist: wood. Not just any prefinished product, but European Oak in an intermediate selection, where the knots filled in tone tell the natural character of the tree without ever being excessive.

We opted for planks laid in a running pattern with a fixed width of 20 cm, a size that gives breathing space to the rooms and emphasizes the elegance of the spaces. But the real secret of the beauty of this surface lies in an ancient, almost alchemical treatment: fuming.

Fuming is not just a color, it is a ritual. It is a process that is still entrusted exclusively to the skilled hands of master craftsmen.

Using the “morcia”, the craftsman works on the brushed surface to give it an aged, authentic and deep appearance. The result is a magnetic play of contrasts: the morcia seeps into the grain revealed by brushing, creating a chiaroscuro effect that changes depending on the light entering through the windows.

To protect this everyday work of art and fix the natural pigmentation, we chose a water-based varnish finish, which ensures resistance without sacrificing the tactile quality of the wood.

OAK WOOD STAIRS

The staircase that creates continuity

The project does not stop at the ground floor: to connect the two levels of the house harmoniously, we wanted the material to “rise” together with us. The staircase is no longer just a functional connection, but becomes a true furnishing element that integrates perfectly with the rest of the home.

The secret of this fluidity lies in the construction details:

  • Monolithic Effect: The first steps were created by cladding the base directly with the same wooden flooring used in the living area. This technical choice makes the material seem to emerge from the floor itself.
  • Material Continuity: The wood continues without interruption in the risers and treads, creating a continuous “skin” effect that envelops the structure. The finish of the treads, varnished exactly to match the brushed oak of the floor, transforms the structural element into its natural extension.
  • Chromatic Consistency: The railing also takes part in this visual dialogue; it has been repainted in a tone coordinated with the window frames of the house, creating a chromatic link between the different architectural components of the space.

ROMANTIC BATHROOM LIVING AREA

A bathroom of light: the warm shades of Alabaster

If in the living area it is wood that sets the rhythm, in the bathroom of the living area we wanted to create an almost suspended atmosphere, where light plays with precious surfaces and pastel tones. This led us to choose an alabaster-effect porcelain stoneware, a material that enchants with its visual depth and its dreamy veining.

We moved away from cold greys to embrace the soft and warm tones of antique pink and peach.

This slab does not only cover the walls, but continues seamlessly down to the porcelain shower tray, creating a single, sculptural volume that visually expands the space.

Steel is often thought of as a cold material, but it is all a matter of finish.

For the taps, we chose a steel effect: its silky matte finish softens the sharp reflections of polished metal, giving a much warmer and more sophisticated material touch. The same rigor is found in the profiles of the shower enclosure, equipped with a practical sliding door and also made with the same finish, for a stylistic coherence that leaves nothing to chance.

BATHROOM SPACE DEDICATED TO THE WELL-BEING OF THE COUPLE

Bathroom between scenography and material: a temple of relaxation

If there is one room in the house where time must stand still, it is the master bathroom. Here, the clients wanted a corner of pure well-being, far from the hectic pace of the day. Thanks to the generous size, we were able to dare with an architectural solution of great impact: a scenographic partition clad in dark marble-effect porcelain stoneware.

This wall is not just an aesthetic element, but acts as an intelligent divider: on one side it discreetly conceals the sanitary fixtures and the technical area, on the other it serves as the backdrop to the true protagonist of the room, a freestanding bathtub with a round shape. A sculptural object that invites a ritual of calm and slowness.

The meeting between Oak and Stone

In such a refined project, the transition between spaces must be harmonious. We chose to extend the wooden flooring from the bedroom into the bathroom, creating an immediate sense of continuity and warmth. However, near the shower, the material changes: the wood gives way to a stone-effect porcelain stoneware, extremely tactile and textured, which also rises as wall cladding to protect the surfaces naturally.

Tailored details and plays of light

The bathroom furnishings were not simply chosen, but designed to integrate with the surfaces:

  • Material integration: the countertop was made with the same dark porcelain slabs used for the feature wall, hosting two integrated basins that seem carved directly into the material itself. The drawers below, with their matte lacquer finish, echo the veining of the cladding for an impeccable chromatic effect.
  • Depth and function: we created several niches in the walls, a fundamental solution to give three-dimensionality to the space and offer functional support surfaces without interrupting the aesthetic cleanliness of the volumes.
  • The touch of brushed copper effect: what gives this bathroom its unique character is the choice of brushed copper-effect taps. Their vibrant tone pairs beautifully with the dark marble tones, finding a visual echo in the profiles of the shower enclosure with the same finish.

A crucial role was entrusted to the lighting design. We developed a system with a dual function: a technical and precise light for the functional areas and a soft, indirect ambient light designed for moments of total relaxation. The result is an environment that is no longer just a bathroom, but a true everyday sensory experience.

PRACTICAL AND INDUSTRIAL BATHROOM FOR THE KIDS

The kids’ bathroom: material contrasts and cuts of light

Going up to the first floor, the atmosphere changes to adapt to a more energetic everyday life. For the bathroom dedicated to the children, we wanted to play with contrasts, moving away from the ethereal shades of the ground floor to embrace a more decisive character.

Here too, the fumed oak from the sleeping area crosses the threshold to give continuity to the transition, but it stops with a sharp cut at the technical area. In its place, we introduced a piasentina stone-effect porcelain stoneware: a material and rigorous choice that covers both the floor and the shower tray, rising strongly along the short side to create a solid and functional shell.

Oxidized copper and wooden references

The real focal point, however, is reserved for the back wall. Here we dared with a cladding that reproduces the effect of verdigris copper, a material that carries metallic and industrial nuances that are very on-trend. This vibrant tone does not remain isolated: we echoed it in the front of the bathroom cabinet drawer, creating a chromatic reference studied down to the millimeter.

To maintain the connection with the rest of the house, the structure of the same cabinet was made in a finish that speaks the same language as the wooden floor, in a continuous dialogue between natural and architectural elements.

Upside-down architecture: the ceiling as the protagonist

Being an attic floor, we could not ignore the slope of the ceiling. On the contrary, we turned it into a strength:

  • The luminous diagonal: to emphasize the line of the pitched roof, we recessed a LED profile directly into the ceiling. This luminous line not only perfectly illuminates the space, but transforms the architectural inclination into a graphic and modern design element.
  • Technical details: consistently with the bathroom in the living area, the taps were chosen with a steel-effect finish, a practical and tactile solution that pairs well with the profiles of the shower enclosure. The latter, equipped with a hinged opening with pivot hinge, ensures aesthetic cleanliness and maximum passage width.

In this bathroom, the practicality required by younger users meets a refined aesthetic research, where every material — from piasentina stone to oxidized copper — contributes to creating a space with a strong and defined personality.

RAISED PORCELAIN STONEWARE OUTDOOR FLOORING

Continuity and technique: raised porcelain stoneware

A complete renovation project cannot stop at the threshold of the house. For the outdoor area, the challenge was to combine the practicality required for an environment exposed to the elements with a modern and clean visual impact. The solution? A floating porcelain stoneware flooring..

We opted for slabs with a thickness of 20 mm, laid on underlying technical supports. This “raised” choice is not just an aesthetic matter: it allows the terrace level to be perfectly aligned with the indoor thresholds, eliminating any tripping hazards and creating a smooth transition between inside and outside.

For the finish, we chose a concrete-effect porcelain stoneware in a 60x120 format. A large size that reduces the number of joints and gives breathing space to the flooring. The grey tone of the concrete highlights, by contrast, the warmth of the exposed brick walls, while chromatically linking to the anthracite rigor of the window frames and sunshades. The final result is an outdoor space that acts as a true extension of the living area, a solid and integrated space that completes a renovation where every material tells a story of style and functionality.

CUSTOMIZING THE SPACES OF YOUR HOME

Seeing an idea turn into reality, centimeter by centimeter, is the most exciting part of my job. I am truly thrilled with the final result because this home is exactly as I had imagined it from the very first sketch on a blank sheet: a perfect balance between material, light, and domestic warmth. But the greatest satisfaction remains the clients’ smiles; their happiness and the feeling of seeing themselves reflected in every technical and chromatic choice are the most important seal on this shared journey.

Now all that remains is to leave space for their everyday life, so they can finally enjoy every corner of this new, beautiful home.
