Two bathrooms: custom made design
Matteo and Federica have a house that needs a complete renovation. In particular, both bathrooms and the kitchen have to be entirely redone.
Before starting the custom design process – as we always do – it is essential to listen carefully to their wishes and ideas, so that we can then translate them, as faithfully as possible, into graphic design proposals.
I have highlighted the two bathrooms in red: the guest bathroom with laundry area and the bathroom in the sleeping area.
The questions we need to answer are:
What are Matteo and Federica’s needs?
What are their wishes?
Which bathroom style suits them best?
How can all of this be translated into a custom-made design for the two bathrooms?
And finally, how can the kitchen surfaces be harmonized with the rest of the project?
The clients’ answers
“The bathroom in the living area must also function as a laundry room. It will include a washing machine, dryer, utility sink, and boiler. It is the bathroom our guests will use, so we would like it to be both beautiful and functional.”
“The bathroom in the sleeping area should have a very large, storage-rich vanity unit. We would love a double vanity, and our dream is to have a large shower.”
“The style we would like for the house is modern, but not too minimalist. It should also feel warm, with wooden flooring and a Stube in the living area.”
The living-area bathroom and laundry room – 1st design proposal (failed...)
The bathroom in the living area, or guest bathroom, has a layout similar to a corridor: it is narrow and long, measuring almost 3 meters in length. Moreover, it must function both as a laundry room and as a guest bathroom – not an easy task!
A laundry bathroom that is also suitable for guests
Matteo and Federica’s requirements are the following:
The room must function as both a guest bathroom and a laundry room.
A boiler has to remain inside this bathroom.
The sink must be large and practical.
The washing machine and dryer should preferably be concealed within cabinetry, to give the bathroom a cleaner and more refined look, since it will be used by friends when they come to visit.
Starting from these key points, we can begin to work on the concept and explore some possible design solutions for this guest bathroom–laundry combination.
The sleeping-area bathroom
The bathroom in the sleeping area is very large and spacious. For this room, Matteo and Federica asked for:
A large, storage-rich vanity unit with a double sink.
A generously sized shower, since it is the only shower in the house and therefore needs to be comfortable.
A large mirror with well-designed, effective lighting.
A modern style bathroom, but without going to extremes.
By listening carefully to the clients, it became clear that the goal was to create a true room dedicated to wellbeing. We began working on the overall mood of the bathroom design, carefully selecting a mix of materials and colors to turn this space into a genuine relaxation area.
The focal point of this bathroom project is undoubtedly the shower desired by the clients: a true wellness area.
A shower dedicated to wellbeing
You might wonder… what is so special about this shower? Its distinctive features include:
a rejuvenating cervical waterfall;
a comfortable built-in seat clad in Bisazza mosaic;
a practical hand shower;
stunning chromotherapy lighting;
a large overhead shower with limescale-resistant nozzles, easy to clean.
All these elements, carefully combined, made it possible to create a custom-designed space where relaxation, comfort, and renewed energy come together.
the shower is very large and fully clad in Bisazza mosaic, with a custom-made shower tray and a built-in seat.
The vanity unit features a double basin and is made of wood, offering generous storage space.
A large bathroom vanity
The custom-designed vanity created for Matteo and Federica also reflects the needs that emerged during our meetings and discussions.
The unit features a double basin, ideal for giving each person their own space, avoiding overlap and everyday disagreements.
Modern yet warm
The materials chosen for this vanity are Corian, used for the large countertop, and antique walnut wood for the structure.
A modern material is therefore paired with a warm, natural one—exactly in line with the clients’ request for a bathroom that feels contemporary but welcoming.
Modern yet spacious
The vanity is very large, measuring around 2 meters in length. As we all know, having ample storage is essential—especially for us women, because space is never enough!
Many modern bathroom vanities sacrifice storage capacity in favor of aesthetics.
That is definitely not the case here.
Surfaces in the sleeping area bathroom: wall and floor coverings
The materials chosen for the floor and wall coverings of this beautiful sleeping-area bathroom are a particular type of porcelain stoneware paired with Bisazza mosaic.
The stoneware features a light grey stone effect: a textured, warm material, ideal for anyone who wants a welcoming and comfortable bathroom.
The chic touch comes from combining it with Bisazza mosaic—a pairing that gives the entire space a very refined and elegant feel.
The living-area bathroom and laundry didn’t convince us!
The initial design for the living-area bathroom and laundry room didn’t feel quite right. Combining two such different functions in a single space proved to be more challenging than expected.
After some reflection, a new idea emerged: why not divide the space and create an anteroom where the boiler, washing machine, and dryer could be placed?
So we started working on this second option and…
Everyone loves the new design!
The result is a much smaller bathroom, yet perfectly equipped to welcome guests: two comfortable sanitary fixtures (including a rimless wall-hung toilet) and a practical, generously sized sink that can also be used as a utility basin when needed.
A practical and well-designed anteroom
The anteroom we created within this very long bathroom layout is ideal for housing the washing machine, dryer, and boiler.
All of these bulky—and let’s be honest, not exactly attractive—appliances are concealed behind custom cabinetry with two doors. No guest would ever guess that these appliances are hidden inside!
Two key details of the living-area bathroom: light and cement tiles
I’d like to highlight two details that were used to create this custom-designed bathroom. The clients asked for “simplicity,” and we designed the space to meet this request—while still incorporating elements that make the bathroom anything but ordinary.
The first detail concerns the surfaces, particularly the use of cement tiles. Since bold decorative elements were not desired, we chose very soft-patterned cement tiles, whose design subtly blends into the wall. The final effect is a light, delicate, and distinctly feminine decoration.
The second detail is the bathroom lighting, which we designed using special recessed plaster LED fixtures concealed within the wall. This type of wall light creates clean, highly scenic beams of light, enhancing the atmosphere without overwhelming the space.
Enhancing the kitchen with surfaces
Matteo and Federica have a handcrafted kitchen that they wanted to preserve and enhance.
They had very clear ideas for the backsplash: a white diamond-shaped tile. A very classic tile—an evergreen, we might say—perhaps not as popular today, but absolutely perfect for their kitchen.
What was needed was an element that could truly highlight the kitchen, and we found it!
Thank you!
Thank you for reading this article, and let us also thank Matteo and Federica for giving us the opportunity to share the work carried out in their home and for welcoming us into their beautiful house surrounded by greenery.
We worked together to design their beautiful bathrooms and to enhance their kitchen, and we are sure that their stunning mosaic shower will be the envy of all their friends!

Salve dott.
