Modern furnishings and finishes but in a classic style

Before starting this story we want to make you a sincere premise: we, the design team of Costo di Arzignano, are by nature and character minimalists, perfectionists, with a strong professional inclination towards designing modern environments with simple and clean lines.

In our over 20 years of experience in the sector we have been asked to design eclectic, minimal, modern, rustic and elegant houses, but we must admit that clients have rarely requested a classic style for their home. You can therefore imagine our surprise when we understood that this very young couple, who had made an appointment with us, dreamed of living among stuccoes, marble effects and more important and decorative furnishings.

A truly engaging challenge that we faced as a team, drawing from the classical panorama and accompanying the clients throughout the entire design and operational journey.

Custom-made kitchen in classic style

The kitchen was one of the last elements to be commissioned to us but it is perhaps the first that is noticed when entering the house and that encloses all the essence of classicism.

Working with custom-made solutions we were truly able to indulge in personalization: from the three-dimensional workmanship of the doors, to the handles with classical decoration, up to the glossy gres countertop and the sides of the counter crafted by recalling the workmanship of the kitchen doors.

The gres countertop in the glossy finish is an unusual choice but in this case it had to be made: the floor of this room is a glossy gres in large slabs with statuario marble effect and when it was decided to bring the same surface as the kitchen worktop we saw it as a synonym of coherence to also bring back the same lux finish.

If you didn’t know us before landing on this article, I recommend scrolling through these 30 of our kitchen projects, and I challenge you to find one similar with elements in common to this classic furnishing of which I leave you the photos below. Keep in mind that these are photos taken on a site not yet completed, but that we hope to replace when, upon invitation from the clients, we will carry out the photo shoot.

Custom-made gres table

Next to the imposing kitchen furnishing, a table was placed that needed to be spacious to accommodate the large family of 5 people; just think that the youngest member was born during the conceptualization and design phase of the house.

We proposed a gres table to them, but not a common gres chosen from the standard finishes available: given the total trust they placed in us, I requested the possibility of creating a custom-made table composed of the base of the SK model and a very large slab from which they could obtain overall dimensions of 300x120 cm.

Once the feasibility of this work was confirmed by our laboratory, I shared with my clients the idea of taking the precious texture of the covering used in the bathroom of the living area and turning it into the surface of their dining table top. You should know that I somewhat expected their enthusiastic reaction, considering how much they had fallen in love with the tile I am talking about, which is a very new brown agate effect that reproduces this precious stone in an accurate and realistic way.

I’ll let you continue with the story so as not to spoil anything else, but know that we will also find these slabs used as cladding and decoration for some walls.

Classic furnishing for the living room

Furnishing this large and spacious living room with custom-made solutions in a classic style was exciting, as we involved multiple elements; we did not focus only on the actual furniture, but the walls, the lighting, the flooring, and the existing fireplace were also part of the project.

You can in fact see that the change in flooring stands out: from glossy marble-effect gres in large slabs we move to a black oak wood floor laid in a herringbone pattern that alone decorates the room with strong character. The clients wanted to preserve the existing fireplace, in perfect classic style, and that was our only constraint for positioning the furnishings and finishes; it was decided to further enhance the wall where this ancient source of heat was located by placing to its right a large backlit agate-effect slab, while to its left, where the TV wall had to be organized, we created a suspended decorated cabinet with a lacquer in the same RAL as the paint.

On the short side wall, the clients instead wanted a bookcase with storage doors, made in the same style as the kitchen doors, and which we designed to be recessed into the plasterboard and illuminated laterally with LED strips in the upper part equipped with shelves.

A small note: with the help of soft colors and important stuccoes with a classic essence, we also involved the vertical surfaces to give the living room the appearance of a large hall of a Palladian villa.

Small and elegant bathroom for the living area

The bathroom in the living area is usually the smallest room in the house, functional for small daily gestures of the family and made available to guests.

Among the essential furnishings to include in this type of bathroom there is certainly a sink for washing hands before sitting at the table, and here a round basin was designed, with wall-mounted stainless steel taps, supported by a cabinet in a dark wood-effect finish with decorated feet, glass top, and silver-colored details for the handles. This area takes on its scenographic power also thanks to the combinations; I am referring to the mirror with a matte black lacquered frame and the wall lamp in a style consistently carried throughout the entire home.
Another furnishing always present in a bathroom in the living area is the toilet which in this case is wall-hung and in glossy ceramic with a stainless steel flush plate.

A bathroom composed of few and essential sanitary elements that share as a common background a texture already seen, the agate effect that the clients fell so much in love with, and the elegant black oak wood.

The bathroom of the living area

Bathroom with bathtub and shower solution, sleeping area

An ambitious project, a complex bathroom with many elements but well blended together, which is still in the middle of the construction phase and yet I decided to share it with you.

To see this jewel we must enter the couple’s bedroom, as it is accessible only from here, being an intimate and private space designed specifically for their relaxation. From the very beginning they asked us to include both a bathtub and a shower, so they could regenerate or relax depending on what their body needs at the end of the day. We proposed a ceramic bathtub with worked feet, equipped with floor-mounted taps in a gold finish, also echoed in the shower head and hand shower of the walk-in shower and in the bidet mixer.

The bathroom cabinet has not yet been installed, and we will certainly update this article once it has been positioned; for now I can tell you that it will be located at the entrance of the bathroom, just below the step that raises the area dedicated to the bathtub and shower, and that it will have a top cut ad hoc from one of the large marble-effect slabs with golden veins.

Classic furnishing for the walk-in closet

Can I say that designing this walk-in closet stimulated me and that I couldn’t wait to see it completed? Well, I didn’t expect it to be so identical to the initial rendering and, seeing it assembled piece by piece during our visits in the installation phase, we witnessed the creation of a room entirely dedicated to clothes, bags and shoes.

The three-dimensional effect desired for the kitchen and the living room furnishings was also carried through, for consistency of lines, in the wardrobes of the bedroom, using however a different lacquer color, a much darker shade of grey compared to that of the TV unit, almost reminiscent of a concrete grey, which pairs beautifully with the bronzed glass of the doors.
The lighting integrated into the wall units and the open compartments, equipped with hangers for coats, was specifically designed to facilitate the choice of clothes to wear but also has a strong scenographic function.

In the center we placed an island composed of drawers for underwear that takes up the same lacquer finish as the wardrobes and that, as a top, features a bronzed glass slab, a choice that recalls the doors.

Classic bathroom dedicated to the children

For the bathroom dedicated to the children we decided to use porcelain gres; this choice certainly provides a sense of peace of mind in letting them be on their own while washing/playing with water.

For material consistency, here we brought back the large glossy slabs that pave the living area and that make up the kitchen countertops, a marble effect with striking dark grey veins. With the bathroom furnishings, instead, we played with black and white contrasts by using matte black taps, glossy white wall-hung sanitary ware and a dark wood-effect cabinet (yes, the same texture as the one in the bathroom of the living area) with a glossy ceramic top and integrated sink.
