Multipor thermal insulation systems: a home in Vicenza
An energy retrofit project in Arzignano
In this home in Arzignano, in the province of Vicenza, an external thermal insulation system (ETICS) was installed with the aim of significantly improving the building’s energy performance and indoor living comfort.
For the insulation system, Multipor mineral panels were selected—an innovative, high-performance solution produced by Ytong, particularly suitable for renovation and energy retrofit projects.
What is Multipor and why choose it
Multipor is a mineral insulation panel, free of fibres, made from natural materials and characterized by a microporous structure. This composition provides excellent thermal performance combined with high dimensional stability.
Unlike many commonly used insulation materials, Multipor stands out for its rigidity and its ability to maintain its properties over time without deformation or settlement.
Greater stability compared to traditional insulation materials
One of the main advantages of Multipor panels is the higher rigidity and stability of the external insulation system compared to solutions such as mineral wool or EPS.
This feature allows for more even surfaces, reduces the risk of cracking over time, and improves the overall durability of the insulation system—especially on existing buildings subject to structural movement or settlement.
Fire safety and high breathability
Multipor is a non-combustible material with high fire resistance, a key aspect both for safety and for compliance with building regulations.
At the same time, it offers very high vapour permeability, allowing water vapour to pass through the wall. This helps keep masonry dry and prevents condensation, improving the overall healthiness of indoor environments.
Ideal for the renovation of existing buildings
Multipor panels are particularly suitable for energy retrofit interventions on existing buildings.
Installing an external insulation system significantly reduces heat loss, improves insulation performance in both winter and summer, and noticeably increases indoor comfort—without reducing the home’s internal living space.
Since every building has its own specific characteristics, we provide personalized consultancy services at our sales points.
Thermal bridge correction and mould prevention
When properly designed and installed, a Multipor insulation system allows thermal bridges to be eliminated or corrected, which are one of the main causes of energy loss and surface condensation.
Reducing thermal bridges also helps prevent the formation of mould patches on internal walls, improving occupants’ wellbeing and the durability of finishes.
Installation phases of the thermal insulation system
For this project in Arzignano, the Multipor panels were bonded to the external walls using a specific lightweight mortar.
They were then mechanically fixed with anchors, ensuring perfect adhesion to the substrate and long-term safety.
Installation does not present major difficulties compared to a traditional insulation system, but it does require care, precision, and expertise to achieve optimal results.
Reinforced skim coat and aesthetic finish
Once panel installation was complete, a reinforced skim coat was applied—essential for leveling the surface and preparing it for the final finish.
The project concluded with the application of the finishing layer, consisting of a two-tone grey paint scheme, chosen to enhance the building’s appearance and integrate it harmoniously into the urban context.
Final result: from energy class F to energy class A
Several months after completion, the client confirmed the effectiveness of the intervention: thanks to the Multipor thermal insulation system, the home moved from energy class F to energy class A.
As a result, the homeowner will benefit from significant energy savings.
This outcome demonstrates how proper design, the right choice of materials, and professional installation can radically transform a building’s energy performance—improving comfort, property value, and sustainability.
Commenti
